A worker has died following a conveyor stacker-related incident at Fortuna Silver’s Lindero operation in Salta, Argentina, the miner confirmed on 28 January.
The company did not identify the miner, who was killed on 27 January, and also did not release additional details of the incident – noting only that Fortuna is working with local authorities to determine the cause.
No other injuries were reported.
“Stacking activities at the heap leach pad have been temporarily suspended for approximately 48 hours and the operation is also taking a safety stop for a day,” Fortuna Silver President and CEO Jorge Ganoza said.
“The company will provide support, assistance and counseling to the worker´s family as they go through this difficult time.”
Canadian-based junior Fortuna Silver also operates mines in Burkina Faso, Peru and Mexico, and has a new mine under construction in Côte d’Ivoire.
